RMA-Episode 44 Show Notes:
Recovery is a process, and learning how to think with a recovery mindset is a journey, an evolution of mind. Like any other journey, there are stages and hurdles, but if you put in the work and trust the process, you’ll get there eventually. In this case, the destination is a place of peace and equilibrium. While this isn’t entirely an episode about The Palsgraf Revelation, Joseph Naus’ follow-up memoir, it does borrow from his discussion on how to help orient your mind using the stages of recovery as a framework. We go deep, and we go long on this, and I hope you find some value in the discussion.
Plus, 4th of July is upon us and summer is in full swing, so join Mike and Nat as they embark on a beachside, nautical, pint-glass sized episode of Recovery in the Middle Ages.

RMA-Episode 41 Show Notes:
This week on Recovery in the Middle Ages, Erin Moore returns to talk about parenting, family dynamics and addiction. When people use drugs and alcohol they aren’t the only ones affected. Like a stone tossed into a pond, the ripples of addiction move outwards from the addict at the center, causing rough seas and shoreline floods for everyone in their path. Erin shares her experience as a single mom of two, who used and got clean while raising her kids. Along the way she learned some ways to deftly navigate this tricky terrain, which she shares with the RMA audience. How do you talk to kids about your past? How can you ensure that your kids don’t follow in your addiction footsteps?
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a person in recovery, a high-functioning alcoholic or a stone-cold junkie, there’s something for you in today’s discussion.
We also have the weekly wrap-up, Recovery in the News and the Week in Weird on a developmentally appropriate, PTA approved, manifested through sheer force of will episode of Recovery in the Middle Ages

RMA-Episode 40 Show Notes:
If you thought Perdu Pharma was the real villain behind the opioid epidemic, let me introduce you to Insys Therapeutics. A pharmaceutical company run by the disgraced and imprisoned CEO John Kapoor, Insys broke new ground when it came to using sleazy sales tactics to get greedy doctors to write bogus prescriptions for their fentanyl lollipops and sublingual spray. When the DEA started to crack down on companies like Insys and the pill mills that popped up overnight in the southern United States, the pharmaceutical companies lobbied Congress and had the law changed, paving the way for years of legal drug-dealing by some of the richest men in America.
This week on Recovery in the Middle Ages, Mike and Nat continue their review of the new HBO documentary The Crime of the Century, a searing indictment of Big Pharma and the political operatives and government regulations that enable over-production, reckless distribution, and mass abuse of synthetic opiates.
Of course, we also have the weekly wrap-up, Recovery in the News and the Week in Weird on a painless, easily influenced by suitcases full of cash and unexplainable by ordinary physics episode of Recovery in the Middle Ages

Crime of the Century - Big Pharma & the Opioid Crisis
Friday May 28, 2021
Friday May 28, 2021
RMA-Episode 39 Show Notes:
When you think of the term “crisis,” what comes to mind? Usually, a crisis is thought of as something that just happens; a series of events that brings you to a critical point where action needs to be taken. But that’s only part of the story. How does a crisis come into being? If you’re talking about the opioid crisis, you can draw a straight line from the actions of Perdu Pharma to the 500,000 Americans who have died of opioid overdoses in the last 20 years.
This week on Recovery in the Middle Ages, Mike and Nat review the new HBO documentary The Crime of the Century, a searing indictment of Big Pharma and the political operatives and government regulations that enable over-production, reckless distribution, and mass abuse of synthetic opiates.
Directed by Alex Gibney and featuring the reporting of Patrick Radden Keef, the Crime of the Century exposes how the pharmaceutical industry reaps billions of dollars in profits dealing drugs while hiding the destructive and dangerous nature of the product they are selling.
Don’t miss this important and compelling look at the epidemic that has cost billions of dollars and taken hundreds of thousands of lives.
Of course, we also have the weekly wrap-up, Recovery in the News and the Week in Weird on an addictive, over-prescribed, immune from civil and criminal liability episode of Recovery in the Middle Ages

RMA-Episode 37 Show Notes:
Life is suffering. To anyone who has watched the sunrise in the parking lot of a cheap hotel after a few days of binging on drugs, the truth of this statement seems undeniable. There was a time when suffering and craving was all we knew. The good news is that according to Buddhist philosophy there is a way out. Suffering can be stopped. Find out how by listening to Mike and Nat review Dharma Recovery, the book and the program, this week on RMA.
Recovery In The News this week asks, what’s the best way to care for and feed your alcoholic when the liquor stores are closed, and the Week in Weird finds little green men on the march in Bolivia.
Oh, and we also celebrate Nat’s graduation from college and shine a light on the idea of toxic positivity. Not that these things are related, but they are on the same show, so strap in and hang on because we go deep this week.

The Sinclair Method (TSM). Naltrexone. What do you think of when you hear those terms? Also, a great story from listener Grant, the week in review, Nat finishes college, and Mike survives another trip to Pittsburgh.
